Oil India net profit up 23%
Oil India Ltd (OIL), the country’s second-largest state-owned explorer, has posted a 23 per cent increase in net profit for the quarter ended December 2009 on the back of higher price realisation due to a reduced subsidy outgo.

Case against Coca-Cola employee quashed
The Supreme Court has quashed criminal proceedings against a branch manager of Coca Cola under the Food Adulteration Act, stating that prosecution could not be initiated unless the complaint was accompanied by the report of the public analyst. This principle was laid down in the case, Saumindra Bhattacharya vs State of Bihar. In this case, a lawyer bought three bottles of Limca. When he drank one, he fell sick. He complained to Coca Cola company, which owns the Limca trademark, that the bottles contained foreign substance. It replied that it was receiving several such complaints and the bottles were being tampered with by unscrupulous elements.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said the process of formulating an overarching body for higher education regulation, on the lines recommended by the Yash Pal committee, was on. He also said he was open to the idea of Indian universities collaborating with foreign ones or with the corporate sector.

Satyam Computers, Patni Computers, Sterlite and Tata Communications declined around 1% each. However, Wipro held strong gains and moved up 3% to $22.1. Dr Reddy"s was up 1% at $25.12.
